The second assignment of the semester was the general audience paper. The aim of this assignment was to write a piece that was modeled after articles on The New York Times. Further, we had to choose a scientific paper written in the IMRAD format to be the subject of the paper. The process of searching for a scientific paper taught us how to navigate through library archives and online databases.

Further, this exposed us to a different form of scientific writing. At the very start of semester we discussed how scientific writing is often inaccessible to the general public. Writing general audience paper is one way of reaching people who aren’t scientists or maybe have a casual interest in the field and keeping them updated in the field.
